Hello my name is Joe 'doc Huston and I am here at my friend's gym in Portland, Oregon to share some tricks, tactics and strategies to help you get the most out of your boxing career Now, we're going talk about the cross, the cross is the power behind the throw. So like the jab, the cross is a straight punch, which means that the knuckle is front of the elbow, the elbow is in front of the shoulder. What Id like to talk a little bit about right now is aiming the punch. And there's three ways that you aim, you aim left to right, top to bottom and you also aim front to back. And what I'd like to do is just talk about one of those aiming techniques right now, and that is the top to bottom aiming. You want the punch to go horizontal or even a little bit upwards if you're fighting a bigger guy. So I'd like you to keep that in mind while I again demonstrate to you the technique of a straight punch. Because I like my boxers, when they throw their jabs and their cross, I like the punches to be long straight, fast and hard. We move the elbow, to move the wrist and we put the knuckle right on top of that. Boom, just like that, your touching the guy right here, your gonna touch the guy and then your gonna push him.
