"Hi, I'm Debbie Catz. I'm a certified clinical hypnotherapist here in the San Francisco Bay area. I have a masters degree in social work. To learn more about this you can visit my website at www.norcalhypno.com. And now I'm going to help you understand the simplicity of hypnosis. The definition of hypnosis is a deep state of relaxation. And the way hypnosis works is, it's dealing with the subconscious mind. So, in our brain we have two parts of our mind: the subconscious and the conscious. The subconscious mind is ninety percent of our brain. That's pretty big. The conscious mind is ten percent. It's also known as the critical conscious mind. And we live most of our lives in the critical conscious mind, in that ten percent that kind of chatters away at us all the time. So the way hypnosis works is through a soft voice, through some music, scripts, a nice relaxing couch or recliner. We have a person to get into a relaxed state. And the reason for that is by getting relaxed we are quieting that conscious mind, that ten percent chattery part of us. And that opens up that ninety percent subconscious mind. If you think about the subconscious mind, think about maybe a hard drive of a computer. And we're reprogramming it, and that's really how hypnosis works, by quieting the conscious mind and opening up the subconscious mind that has all of our memories, and everything. And we can affect change in a person's belief systems and behaviors by addressing the subconscious mind. "
