My name's Dana Dunn. I've been working in the piercing business going on 6 years now. I do typically about 3,000 to 4,000 a year. I work at Pins and Needles Tattoo. We have a website pinsandneedlesportland.com. Piercing is my life and I'm going to talk to you about body piercing. Snake bites is two lip piercings on both sides of the mouth. It's a really easy process. They do tend to swell up so I recommend icing, eating ice cubes, Popsicles, ice cream. Anything really cold that'll keep the swelling down to a minimum for the first few days is really important with snake bites. I strongly recommend getting them done with hoops at first just because when it comes to cleaning you want to be able to rotate the jewelry. Some places will do studs, but the studs aren't too too long so they don't really move around that much. It'll take a long time for them to heal. With any oral piercing, especially snake bites, if you smoke you're going to want to make sure you keep mouth wash with you at all times and you want to rinse your mouth out really really well. It's the same thing with any type of very very sugary juices or citrus juices like orange juice. Anything like that, coffee, soda. Anything like that you really want to rinse it out and make sure your mouth is really clean especially for the first two weeks after having snake bites done. They do take about four to six weeks to fully heal. They do tend to be a little swollen for about two weeks after getting them done, but once they're done the healing time is really really easy. Four to six weeks.
