Hi. My name is Lisa Moskovitz and I’m a registered dietician and certified in the state of New York with a private practice on the Upper East Side. I specialize in weight management, exercise and sports nutrition and I’ll be talking to you about diets. The Cabbage Soup diet, it’s supposed to be a quick fix if you have an upcoming event that you need to lose weight quickly for. It actually tells you it’s not a long-term approach, as it has you cutting out a lot of different food groups. You follow this plan for seven days and then they advise you to make sure you go at least two weeks before restarting the program again. With lots of cabbage soup and only one to two foods every day of the week, you’re able to lose weight really quickly for an event that you may have in the following week. Because this program advises you to not follow it for more than seven days, you can rest assured that it’s not the safest or healthiest way to go about losing weight. While they do have you eating plenty of cabbage which is high in fiber, and they make sure you are getting a variety of foods during the week, it’s very restrictive, limited and high maintenance.
