Hello, my name is Jill Phillips, and I'm co-owner of Squeals on Wheels, a traveling petting zoo and pony rides. My name is John Phillips. We have horses, miniature horses. We have miniature llamas and alpacas, chickens, ducks. We have bearded dragons. Our website is www.squealsonwheels.us. We love guinea pigs as a pet for family even for younger children, because they're much easier to take care of then a lot of the pets you might think of. They have a very sweet and docile personality. They're very calm. They can be very affectionate. They enjoy people. They're a very low cost pet. They don't cost a lot to purchase or adopt. You can always check rescues. There's a lot of guinea pigs that need a family, and they're really one of the most gentle creatures. We really enjoy them. They're very low maintenance, and they're really, really good with small children, and they really respond to petting from people. They're just very sweet and affectionate. It doesn't take a lot of time to take good care of a guinea pig. You really only need to change the bedding 1-2 times per week, but you let your nose dictate the frequency of the bedding change. That's the best way to recommend it. They need to be inside. They really do much better in a controlled temperature. Now, on the flip side of the coin, they can be very, very noisy. They make numerous noises. Some of the guinea pigs can be very shy, so if the guinea pigs haven't been handled from almost birth, then they can be very shy, and it's a little more difficult to get them calm and docile. So, you always want to get one that has been handled quite a bit, and you know their history.
