Learn what Colombian style salsa is in this Howcast dance video with expert Jorday Rivera.
Hello, my name is Jorday Rivera, and I am an expert in salsa. I own two dance studios in Queens, New York. We’re going to be learning a progression of salsa moves so we can actually go out, practice, take it to the clubs, take it to a party, and you can show off all the great moves you learned. What is Colombian Salsa? Imma give this one to my partner over here Marcus. Hey. Well basically Colombian style salsa. Salsa’s not a music that is native to Columbia. It’s become very popular as of late. What happened is a lot of Cuban bands touring in Columbia brought their style of salsa and Colombians made it their own. Basically the way they dance, they’re dance on the one beat so their dancing along with the music. They’re not necessarily as dictated by the music as we are. And you’ll find a lot of times that when their grabbing their partner they’re dancing with her, holding her here. And it’s just very bouncy and it’s very different to what you’ll normally see in New York. That’s Colombian style salsa.
