Now were going to get into the Charlestons steps. Basic Charleston is just like the touch steps we did before, but you’re going to go: touch forward, back up, touch back, go forward, basic Charleston. Touch, back, touch, forward. Touch step, back, touch step, forward. That’s a basic Charleston.
Da da, da da. Da da da da da. Basic Charleston.
A heel swivel Charleston as we do it looks like this. And what happens is, as I do the touch I actually put some weight on it and swivel my heels in. So both my heels swivel in. I swivel out as I lift up, as I bring that food down the heels swivel in again. So every time I put both feet on the ground my heels are swiveling in. I swivel out as one’s in the air, both heels swivel in as I land. So it’s out in out in, out in out in. So every time I land heels fall in, every time I lift heels go out. So that goes heels up, in, up, in, up, in, up, in. And that’s Charleston with a heel swivel. Ba ba ba ba so there’s the Charleston with the swivels.
Then we have a lindie Charleston from the late 20s early 30s. The difference with that is the leg actually kicks in the air. We go kick and back, touch back forward. So it goes, ba ba, da da. And that back is kind of a rock step or a push step, you kind of push and step, kick up. And that kick up we don’t just think about snapping our foot, it actually kind of wheels a little bit, so I kind of pull up and then back. So you see it kind of rounds up and back as I step and then push step step up back and push step step up back and a push step step up and back. Yeah the timing for that would be:1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8;1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8;1,2.
And then we have side by side Charlestons where you stay on the same side. And that’s kick and, kick and, kick and, kick and. So you kick pull in to do a change, kick put down. And then do the same thing other foot; kick pull in to change, kick step down. Kick and kick step, kick and kick step, kick and kick step. So we have: touch step back, touch step forward, touch step back, add the heels swivels. In out in, in out in, in out in, kick the leg. Kick back rock and go, kick back rock now switch. Same side, da ba, ba ba. Ba ba and you have your Charlestons."
