The best thing about a career fair is that this is an opportunity to meet potential employers. Employers are there because they’re looking to hire people. Here’s the bad thing about a career fair: there are hundreds of other people applying for these jobs as well. So what you want to do in the face of hundreds of other applicants, is to stand out from the crowd, and how you’re going to do that is to be infinitely prepared. Be the person who has done that extra bit of research. How you can prepare as well, is to look the part. Make sure that you’re as polished as possible. From your shoes to your tie to your dress, you need to look fantastic. You don’t want anything working against the fact that you’re the perfect candidate for this job. You want to walk tall with posture. You want to introduce yourself. This is not the time to be a wallflower. This is an opportunity to stand up, to introduce yourself. You want to absolutely practice your elevator pitch. You’ve got about two minutes to present who you are, and why you’re the best person for this job, so that takes a little bit of knowing what this job is about, and knowing what specific skills and experiences you have that are perfectly matched to this particular industry. So you’re elevator pitch is going to be one part rehearsed, but honestly, you’re going to have a different one specific to each and every person you interview. Research all of these potential companies so that it’s why you are the perfect person for this particular job. That is how you’re going to ace the job fair.
