How to Take Tests in Middle School

Learn how to take tests in middle school from expert Alexis in this Howcast video.

Everybody knows that you need to study to ace your test or quiz, right? But I think that the hardest part is actually sitting down and doing it. You know, getting that focus and that determination to sit down, drop everything else, and really focus on studying for your test. So here’s what I do. I put my headphones on to drown out any noise around and I put on electronic or classical music. Something without words so I’m not tempted to sing along. But it really makes you focus on what you’re reading or studying.

Another thing I try to always do is make some flash cards. Make them a week before your test and review them for a couple minutes every night until the exam. Then the night before, you’ll feel like you’re already really prepared, you just have to review. If you leave everything until the last second, you’re cramming, and you won’t remember as much as if you started studying a little bit earlier. Get a full night’s sleep before your test, and make sure that when you wake up, you eat a good breakfast. You won’t be able to concentrate if you’re thinking about how hungry you are or how tired you are. I know that I definitely can not focus if I’m hungry.

When you’re taking the test, budget your time. If you know that you’re really good at multiple choice, do the multiple choice but leave plenty of time for the areas where you need more help. Like the essay for instance, you want to maybe make an outline, have time to think things through and write a great essay. Follow those tips and you’ll get yourself an A.
