How to Cook Indian Food: How Garam Masala Is Used in Indian Recipes

Learn how to make garam masala in this Howcast food video. RECIPE: 3" cinnamon stick, broken up; 2 tbsp each whole cloves and whole cumin seeds; 1 tbsp each whole coriander seeds and black peppercorns; 2 tsp ground cardamon. Put whole spices, except the cardamom, in a pan over medium-high heat. Stir constantly until spices are fragrant but not burning. Immediately transfer to a plate and let cool completely. Use an electric spice grinder, grind spices to a fine powder. Stir in the ground cardamom completely before transferring to a spice container. Spice mixture should retain its flavor for up to 6 months if stored in an airtight container.
