Lavender Essential Oil is the steam distilled extract from the lavender flower and possibly the lavender leaves. It does have just a beautiful aroma that's been used in perfumery for centuries and the aroma itself has been proven in studies to help relax and calm the nerves. So if you are making your own beauty products or using natural plant oils as body oils or facial moisturizer, you can actually use lavender oil as natural fragrance for them. You never want to apply lavender essential oil directly to the skin; like all essential oils, it's much too astringent and much too strong and too concentrated to apply to the skin; it would definitely cause irritation. Lavender essential oil can usually be found at a health food store; when you are looking for lavender essential oil you want to make sure it's 100% pure. Lavender oil can refer to perfume oil which is entirely synthetic and isn't appropriate for use in natural cosmetics. It can also refer to an oil that's mixed with lavender essential oil. So when you are looking for lavender essential oil look for 100% pure lavender essential oil in your local health food store.
