How to Do the Butterfly Sweep in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

Learn how to do the butterfly sweep from Alliance MMA black belt Babs Olusanmokun in this Howcast Brazilian Jiu Jitsu video.

Butterfly guard.

I’m going to push the opponent from here and sit up.

Now, this hand under his throat is going to go under his armpit and grab on his back. I’m grabbing the belt along with fabric.

My opponent is going to be trying to stuff my leg down here. I’m going to grab his sleeve and keep it tucked to my leg.

He’s going to be swept with this hook. This hook right there, with my left leg.

I’m going to take out my right leg and hide it behind my butt, like so.

I keep my head tight to my opponent, I lift my hook, and I end up in the mounted position.

Now I’m going to sweep him to the other side for you to see the hook here.

I’m here. I’ve pushed him off of me to sit up. I grab under his armpit, the far side of his belt and fabric. Cinch my elbow to me tight here.

I have his hand controlled against my knee. My left hook is going to sweep him. My right leg dips out. Like that.

I can be on my toes on my right leg. Look. I lift the hook, and I end up in the mounted position.

And that is your butterfly sweep.
