Find out what Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is from Alliance MMA black belt Babs Olusanmokun in this Howcast Brazilian Jiu Jitsu video.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a form of self defense martial arts derived from the original Jiu Jitsu, which came from Japan. And it was taken to Brazil by a Japanese master who taught a group of brothers and these brothers focused more on the ground aspect of Jiu Jitsu and therefore developed this strain of Jiu Jitsu called Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. It consists of chokes, submission holds, joint locks, and it’s a very strategic way to fight on the ground. With the advance of the UFC, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu has proven that the ground fighting aspect of fighting are extremely important. They don’t look pretty, it’s not fancy, but it is extremely useful, and very, very effective. So Jiu Jitsu has also developed into a sport, a growing sport. There are a number of schools all over the United States. In the past you’d find schools only in Brazil, but now there are many great teachers here in the United States. It’s an amazing art. It’s an amazing form of training. It gets you in shape. It gives you self confidence, amazing self confidence, and it helps you face up to your fears. And that is why I love training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and that is what Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is all about.
