Learn how to layer a quilt sandwich from quilting expert Cathy Izzo in this Howcast video.
After you’ve made your quilt top, and for today we’re going to pretend this is our quilt top that’s completed. You’re going to want to layer it for basting.
The first thing you’re going to need is a piece of backing that is larger than your top, that’s the most important. You want to make sure you have several inches all round the quilt top. First thing you’re going to do is tape it down. That way it’s not going to shift. You want to tape it down so that there’s no wrinkles, no folds, and then you layer your batting.
The batting also should be a little bit bigger than your top. You don’t want to have batting gaps. You don’t want to have a spot where there’s no batting in your quilt top. This is a sandwich that is ready for basting.
