How to Make an Apple Pie: Filling the Pie Crust

Learn how to fill the pie crust for an apple pie in this Howcast cooking video. INGREDIENTS: For the double crust: 2 ½ cups flour, 1 1/2 tablespoon sugar, 1 teaspoon salt, 20 tablespoons or 2 1/2 sticks unsalted butter (cold), 4-5 tablespoons ice water. For the apple filling: 5-6 medium apples (I like to use 2 to 3 different varieties of tart, crisp apples.You can ask your local farm market what varieties they recommend), 3/4 cup sugar, ½ teaspoon lemon zest, 1 tablespoon lemon juice, 1/4 teaspoon salt, 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon, 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg. For finishing: 1 egg white, 1 tablespoon sugar for dusting.
