  • Cruise control
  • Shaded parking spots
  • Radial tires
How To Save Gas With Eight Secret Tips: Don't sweat it

Step 1: Don't sweat it

Go on — enjoy your air conditioner on the highway. Consumer Reports says that AC’s gas-guzzling reputation is undeserved. And, at higher speeds, opening the windows or sunroof can hurt fuel economy by increasing drag.

How To Save Gas With Eight Secret Tips: Run on empty

Step 2: Run on empty

Don’t fill up your tank until you’re practically on empty; the less fuel you’re toting, the lighter your car, and the more efficiently it will run.

How To Save Gas With Eight Secret Tips: Turn nozzle upside down

Step 3: Turn nozzle upside down

After filling up your car, turn the nozzle upside down before you remove it from your tank. You’ll get another half a cup of gas that’s stuck in the hose.

How To Save Gas With Eight Secret Tips: Tighten your gas cap

Step 4: Tighten your gas cap

Tighten your gas cap after filling up so you don’t let any precious fuel evaporate.

Try to park in the shade. This will also help prevent evaporation.

How To Save Gas With Eight Secret Tips: Use your overdrive

Step 5: Use your overdrive

Put your car in overdrive for highway driving. It lowers your RPM, or revolutions per minute, which saves gas. Check your owner’s manual for the recommended speed at which you may use overdrive.

If you’re due for new tires, get radials; they improve gas mileage by two or three percent.

How To Save Gas With Eight Secret Tips: Stay in your lane

Step 6: Stay in your lane

Stay in one lane as much as possible; weaving uses up more gas.

How To Save Gas With Eight Secret Tips: Cruise correctly

Step 7: Cruise correctly

Use cruise control when you’re on a flat highway, where it can increase mileage by 7%. But don’t use it on uneven roads, where it’s not efficient.

How To Save Gas With Eight Secret Tips: Turn off everything

Step 8: Turn off everything

Turn off all electronics and climate controls before you cut the engine. With the extras off, your engine won’t have to strain so hard to restart, leading to better gas mileage.

The Model T got 15 miles per gallon, just three mpg less than the average SUV.

Hardly ";secret"; tips as I have known these for several decades sigh. Also the last time you had to ask for radial tires instead of non radial (bias ply) at a Sears auto center was about 1975.

Some important stuff about fuel economy was forgotten for this video -Car engine maintenance: synthetic oil, new spark plugs and cables, new filters (yes your engine intakes a lot of air to function) will all help reduce gas consumption. -Tire pressure: check tire pressure weekly -The way you drive: keep your distance, look far ahead, don’t speed and drive smoothly. -Combine your trips, can you stop by the supermarket on your way home from work instead of taking out the car to only to go there on the weekend -If you have a flex work schedule: Go to work early, leave early or go to work at 10am and leave work at 7pm, (less traffic more fuel economy) -Are you shopping for a vehicle: consider smaller, or hybrid especially if you live within a large city.

Well being in the auto parts industry the tip of waiting til your almost on empty is not advisable. Going under 1/4 tank with in town driving can ruin your fuel pump ( electric in tank ) and all the money you saved by these tips just when away.
