You Will Need
- recycled lumber (untreated wood); or stone, brick, concrete
- power drill
- pencil
- measuring tape
- exterior deck screws
- wire (optional)
- supports (optional)
Step 1: Get started
Decide what material you’d like to use and how big you’d like the bed to be. Use recycled materials whenever possible.
Step 2: Assemble
If you’re using wood, you can predrill your holes and assemble the lumber in a workshop or garage.
Make sure to use screws that are specifically for outdoor use.
You may want to build a taller bed, depending on your plans. For example, livestock would require a taller raised bed.
Always use untreated wood and building materials when you’re building a raised bed–you don’t want any chemicals leaching into your garden.
Use recycled materials whenever possible!
Step 3: Add supports
Depending on how tall your bed is, you may want to build supports for the corners to connect and fortify the levels.
