The original daiquiri, a lime-and-rum drink invented in Cuba in the late 1800s, is named after a beach near the city of Santiago. Ah, what those sun-baked bathers would have given for this frosty version of the Cuban classic!
Fill the glass with ice and water and set it aside to chill.
Add one cup of ice to the blender, followed by the light rum, lime juice, and simple syrup.
To make simple syrup, simply boil two parts sugar to one part water for about 10 minutes. Let cool before using.
Blend the ingredients for about 15 seconds, or until smooth and creamy.
For added color and sweetness, add a handful of fruit, like strawberries or pineapple.
Empty the now-chilled glass and pour in the contents of the blender.
Insert a straw, sip, and imagine yourself lolling under an umbrella on the sun-bleached sands of Daiquiri beach.
Ernest Hemingway and John F. Kennedy were both big fans of the daiquiri — though probably neither was responsible for inaugurating National Daiquiri Day, celebrated every year on July 19.

This was very easy to follow and lots of fun! I really get it now how to make one and it was easy to get the steps. Great filming, too . . . I liked the map, history, tidbits, and the feeling of the film overall. Thanks! Howcast is great!
