Being a teetotaler has never been tastier.

You Will Need

  • A large pot
  • A qt. of fresh apple cider
  • A cinnamon stick
  • 2 brown sugar
  • 1 tsp. whole cloves
  • 1 tsp. whole allspice
  • A strainer
  • And 4 mugs or cups
  • A piece of cheesecloth
  • Some string
  • Zest of one lemon
  • 1 rum, whiskey, or brandy

Steps

  1. Step 1

Boil cider, sugar, cinnamon, cloves & allspice

Pour the cider and brown sugar into a large pot. Add the cinnamon, cloves, and allspice. Bring it to a boil.

  2. Tying the cinnamon, cloves, and allspice in cheesecloth makes straining at the end easier.

  3. Step 2

    Simmer on low heat

Once the mixture is boiling and the brown sugar has fully dissolved, lower the heat to a simmer.

  4. For extra zip, add the zest of one lemon.

  5. Step 3

    Simmer for 30 minutes

Allow the cider to simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  6. Step 4

Strain into mugs & add alcohol

When the cider is ready, turn off the heat and strain the mixture into four mugs. For an added kick, add a dash of rum, whiskey, or brandy--that'll really warm you up.

  7. Research shows that cloudy apple cider has much more antioxidants than the clear kind.
