You Will Need

  • One can of cold Guinness Draught
  • One bottle of pale ale or lager
  • A pint glass
  • A round soupspoon
  • A special Black and Tan spoon
How To Pour a Black & Tan: Tilt glass

Step 1: Tilt glass

Tilt the glass slightly and pour the pale ale until the glass is a bit more than half full.

Pouring the ale quickly creates a bigger head that helps support the layering.

Step 2: Position the spoon

Hold a round soupspoon upside-down over the middle of the glass.

Some people bend the spoon handle into a horizontal “S” shape that can be balanced on the edge of the glass.
