You’ve tied this one a million times and never even known it—or at least its official name. It’s just your basic…you know…knot.
Cross the end of the rope over the top of the remaining rope, making a “Q” shape.
Tuck the end of the rope, or the tail of the “Q,” up through the loop from behind.
Pull the rope at both ends to tighten.
The easiest stopper knot to tie, the Overhand is used to keep a rope from slipping out of a hole through which it has been threaded.
