It’s time for America to transform its green lawns to “green” landscapes. Watch this video and find out how.
Traditionally lawns were a status symbol in feudal Europe. Large green lawns meant that the estate had lots of sheep and lots of cattle.
You can decrease the size of your lawn or eliminate it entirely.
Use native plants that thrive in your area. Native plants shouldn’t require more water than falls in your climate.
Start a mini-orchard using dwarf fruit trees.
Don’t forget to put a two-inch thick layer of mulch around your trees to keep moisture in and weeds out.
Can’t live without your lawn? Try adopting more eco-friendly practices.
Ditch power tools for hand tools and a push mower.
Set up a rain collector under a downspout from your gutter and use that water to water your lawn.
Add a water feature, like a pond, they’re just as pretty as a lawn and better for the environment. Kids love them!
Organic fertilizers are clearly marked on the label and available at all garden centers. They can be pricey, so consider starting your own compost. For more adventurous gardeners–use chickens and a chicken tractor!
A more sustainable planet starts with us!
