Instructions
- : Mature, hardened sweet peas, unlike garden peas, are poisonous and should not be eaten.
- Step 1: Prep the bed Prep your soil bed by breaking up clumps with garden tools, adding fertilizer like manure or compost, and digging a 1-inch-deep trench for the seeds.
- TIP: To help the seeds absorb water and sprout earlier, use nail clippers to make a small slit in the seed.
- Step 2: Plant the seeds Plant the seeds in the trench, spaced 2 to 3 inches apart.
- Step 3: Cover and water Cover the seeds with soil and then water them.
- Step 4: Build support Build a support for your climbing sweet peas using chicken wire and stakes.
- TIP: Protect your sweet peas from birds by arching netting over them.
- Step 5: Trim Trim the seedlings as they grow, and give them plenty of space between each other.
- Step 6: Water Water your sweet peas regularly, but remember not to water during the hottest part of the day.
- Step 7: Mulch and care Mulch the seeds well and keep the roots cool and moist. Before you know it, your garden will be sweetened with the vibrant sweet pea.
