Make your own Fourth of July Hat everyone will envy with only a few simple items.
Instructions
- Step 1: Trace a circle Trace the outline of a plate on white foam board and cut it out with the craft knife to make the brim.
- Step 2: Make the brim Place the oatmeal container in the center of your foam board brim and trace around it.
- Step 3: Put brim on Slip the brim over the oatmeal container so the brim rests on the ridge of the container.
- TIP: If your oatmeal container doesn't have a ridge, tape the brim in place.
- Step 4: Glue on Glue red construction paper around the oatmeal container.
- Step 5: Glue on band Measure the circumference of the container and cut a 3-inch wide blue band from construction paper. Glue the band to the oatmeal container above the brim.
- Step 6: Measure Measure the length from the top of the hat to the hatband and cut eight 1-inch wide strips of white construction paper to glue onto the hat at evenly spaced intervals.
- Step 7: Glue on stars Draw and cut six stars from white construction paper and glue them over the hatband.
- Step 8: Make a top Trace the top of the hat on another piece of foam board, cut out the circle, and tape it onto the top of your new, patriotic, Independence Day hat.
- FACT: The Fourth of July was not declared a legal holiday until 1941, 165 years after the formal adoption of the Declaration of Independence.
