How to Keep Your Refrigerator Clean

- Step 1: Remove items Remove all items from your refrigerator, placing food and dairy products in a cooler if you're worried about taking a long time.
- TIP: Unplug the refrigerator before cleaning.
- Step 2: Remove shelves Remove the drawers, shelves, and racks, and place them in the bathtub or large tub.
- Step 3: Spray Spray the drawers, shelves, and racks with a solution of half water and half bleach. Let sit for 10 minutes, then rinse thoroughly.
- TIP: Vinegar can also be used instead of bleach. But be careful to not mix the two together.
- Step 4: Clean the walls Clean the outside and inside of the refrigerator with a solution of half water and half white vinegar.
- Step 5: Throw away spoiled food Throw away any food that is spoiled or past the expiration date.
- Step 6: Wipe rims Wipe the rims of salad dressing, jam, and ketchup containers with warm water before putting them back in the refrigerator.
- Step 7: Keep in airtight containers Keep leftovers in airtight containers. Clean spills right away before they become dry.
- Step 8: Clean often Clean fridge every six to 12 months to keep it sparkling clean and mess-free.
- FACT: If bleach and ammonia are mixed together, dangerous toxic gases are produced.
