How to Play a D Major Open Chord on Guitar

Instructions

  • Step 1: To form D major, place your index finger on the 3rd string, 2nd fret; middle finger on the 1st string, 2nd fret; and your ring finger on the 2nd string, 3rd fret.
  • Step 2: Make sure to only strum the bottom 4 strings to get the right sound.

So, how about D major, right? Your 1st finger is going to go on the 3rd string, 2nd fret. And then, your 2nd finger is going to go on the 1st string, 2nd fret. And then, your 3rd finger is going to go on the 2nd string, 3rd fret. This one, you have to be careful here, and you are only trying to strum these last 4. Ok, now if you hit some extra ones in the beginning that's ok. But that's D major. Now, you may see people try to make it different ways. Some folks make it with just 2 fingers. That's ok. But really, this is the easiest way to do it. D major.
