How to Get Your 1st Level of Certification in Pilot Training

Learn how to get your first level of certification in pilot training from pilot Josh Kallenberg in this Howcast video.

Hi, my name is Josh Kallenberg and I'm here at the Van Nuys Airport in Los Angeles, California. I've been flying professionally for about 13 years, and now I have the pleasure of flying this Gulfstream G450 which is a lot of fun and exciting. And today I'm going to talk to you about becoming a pilot. So what is the first level of certification? Most people go for the private pilot certification. What does that let you do? It lets you fly generally a single engine aircraft, for the most part, in generally good weather. You can fly night or day - You can't fly when the visibility is below a certain level. You can't fly in clouds. This just means you're able to take your family or friends and go fly and grab some lunch. You pretty much can fly most places in the country and come back. You can do that all in a day and it's a lot of fun. With a private pilot certification, one thing you can not do is get compensated for flying. You can, however, use the aircraft if it's incidental for business. So if you have a meeting and need to get there you can commute in the airplane, if it's incidental to your business.
