Hello, my name is Carolyn Dean, drcarolyndean.com. I'm a medical doctor and a naturopathic doctor and I live in beautiful Maui. I've finished my 22nd health book, I have a free newsletter and I also have an online wellness program that you can join. And today in this series I'll be talking about dieting. The Master-Cleanse,as a weight loss program I don't advise it. Let me just say that off the top. I don't like the fact of people doing what amounts to a water fast for extended periods of time. We found out decades ago that when people just see drink water and maybe as in the Master-Cleanse,it has some lemon juice and some maple syrup and some Cayenne powder,it is really not enough to sustain your metabolism without them going and breaking down muscle protein. So its not healthy and you can also get so much of a detoxification reaction of toxins and poisons being released that you can feel very sick on it. What happens when people gain weight is that those fat cells actually hold toxins and when you break down your fat and then start breaking down your muscle,the toxins are released and they'll still circulate through your bloodstream, affect your brain, affect your digestion,if you can't get rid of them fast enough, they can hang on and recirculate and can cause more and more problems more and more side effects and symptoms.When you do the Master-Cleanse if thats all you are eating,and you are not taking anything with fiber,then you are not gonna have bowel movements.One of the things about the Master-Cleanse is taking salt water purgin in the morning and and having that produce an elimination.For some people that doesn't work and they reabsorb the salt and the water and it makes them feel bloated,some people advise animal or cologne extract to Master-Cleanse.My recommendations for the Master-Cleanse is just do it one day a week or three days a season and when you are doing it make sure you have fiber and use the formula with water,lemon juice,maple syrup is better than the honey because it dissolves better and you can add a Cayenne and I also add some ginger powder,use that as your only drink.You can do two or three quarts a day but also take some psyllium seed powder or do a coffee animal or go for a colognic then you'll have a very good detoxification,you'll kinda rest your digestive system,you'll decrease your bloat,thats for sure,and it can be very beneficial,but if you do it the way it was originally recommended,I dont think thats healthy at all and i hear rumors every once in a while about you know,celebrities and stars doing this diet to lose weight for a for a movie but your weight will bounce up right afterward because you lose it too quickly
