Hi, my name is Chris51. I specialize in what I like to call "Hyper Realism Tattooing". And my name is Joshua South. I'm the head instructor here at Area 51 in Springfield, Oregon. To find out more information, visit a51tats.com. Let's talk tattoos.
My first word of advice for any anti-mainstream tattoos is go old-school. Garage sales, flea markets, book stores. Use book stores. Bargain bins. Any of these places, you're going to find the images you're not going to find on the internet, on search engines, things like that. Those are great places to start; a lot of good references there but guess what? Everybody gets that same reference. It's been done over hundreds and hundreds of times. You find an old book, and old magazine, that's stuff that no one else is gonna have, that's stuff your artist is gonna appreciate and really build off of. Comic books, old magazines, vinyl record covers, thats stuff thats not floating around on the internet, that's stuff thats personal and true. Bring all of these ideas to your artist. The more you bring to your artist, the better off you're gonna be, the easier you make his job, and that gives him more time and freedom to spend on your design.
