Learn how to do the rubber pencil trick from professional illusionist Ben Nemzer in this Howcast magic tricks video.
My name is Ben Nemzer and I’m a magician. One of my specialties is close-up magic, which is magic with ordinary objects, decks of cards, ropes, rubber bands and I do that all over New York City. I’m gonna teach you some of the basics of magic, that you guys can start performing right away.
This is the rubber pencil illusion. The secret to the rubber pencil illusion, is that it’s actually just an illusion. It’s all the way you move the pencil, which tricks your eye into thinking that it’s rubber.
Now, there’s two movements. One is an up and down movement. One is a side to side movement. Now, if you do just side to side or just up and down, it’s not very convincing. But if you hold it very loosely in your fingers, almost like it’s going to fall out, and you try to combine the two movements, it tricks your eye into thinking that it’s rubber.
And that’s how you do the rubber pencil illusion.
