How to Do a Natural Makeup Look on Cheeks

Learn how to apply makeup to your cheeks for a natural look from professional makeup artist Michelle Dittrich in this Howcast makeup tutorial.

My name is Michelle Dittrich and I'm a makeup artist. I've dome makeup on a lot of celebrities. Pam Anderson, Kanye West, Lenny Kravitz, Cynthia Nixon. There's a big misconception that "I could never do that look on the runway" and you absolutely can. Everybody can and you'll place your best attributes and I can show you how to do that. We just finished Billie's natural eye look and brows, as well as spot concealer and an illuminizing, moisturizing cream. To continue with this natural look we want to add a little bit of a flush to the cheek but instead of using a powder we're going to use a cream so we can keep that really super natural, unpowdered, almost no makeup look. So I picked, although it does look very, very bright, here it's a super sheer cream blush, and where we're going to apply it is going to also make a big difference. You only want to put blush where you flush. Only where you get sun, if you got too much sun or whatnot. I'm going to also apply it with a sponge instead of a brush, or my finger. because a brush and my finger are going to apply it very directly because they're both more pointed. So if you just lightly dab a sponge into the cream, and remember you can always add more, less is more for this look so we can build if it is not enough. but lets see. Smile, and we're going to just softly pat it. That looks just peachy. Cream blush really does absorb into your skin much quicker than a powder so this will probably even dissipate to a softer finish, even though that is perfectly soft. So just a little bit more. When your creating a natural flushed look, once you have it in the general apple of the cheek you want to pull it down a little bit, pat it down instead of up. Because when you know your outside and it's cold and you get flushed right here, that's kind of the look we're going for, just a natural look. And that's it. If you want you can use whatever left on your sponge to go up a little around the temples because sometimes you get a little tiny bit flushed up there. Just a little cherubic looking. Ultimately that's it. That's your natural flushed blush look.
