My name is Michelle Dittrich and I'm a makeup artist. I've done makeup on a lot of celebrities Pam Anderson, Kanye West, Lenny Kravitz, Cynthia Nixon. There's a big misconception that I could never do that look on the runway and you absolutely can. Everybody can and you'll play to your best attributes and I can show you how to do that. When you're purchasing cosmetics it's important to set some guidelines for yourself. Initially you want to a) set a budget, b) when you see something tear it out and keep it because that will help you bring a signature style to your every day makeup and c) make sure that you have the basics for an every day look before you start spending money on trend makeup because your trend makeup isn't going to work well if you don't have your bases covered. So my tips on purchasing makeup are: when you have pulled the looks that you think you can pull off and you are at the drug store or at the cosmetics counter have somebody with you that either you trust or you know they do great makeup. So start building a relationship with someone at your local department store in a line that you like and have them do an application on you. Bring your magazine clippings and say I would love to learn how to do this look. They should be more than happy to and maybe you can buy some key items there and some key items at the drugstore. And that's another idea you need to keep in mind is your budget. So if you're going to spend more money on a few things like a great moisturizer so that everything wears well on your skin or a really nice foundation. I think those are things if you're going to spend more money on do that instead of like the trendy hot blue liner that you can get the same replica at the drug store for four times less if you don't have your moisturizer and foundation first. I would focus on that. So keep in mind your personal taste and style when you go to buy makeup cuz it needs to work for you.
