My name's Dana Dunn. I've been working in the piercing business going on 6 years now. I do typically about 3,000 to 4,000 a year. I work at Pins and Needles Tattoo. We have a website pinsandneedlesportland.com. Piercing is my life and I'm going to talk to you about body piercing. Monroe piercing is a piercing that's done on the upper lip more commonly with females. The healing on it is actually pretty much exactly like a snake bite. It's just the upper part. It's done with a stud. At first the stud is 3/8 in length to start with just because it does swell up. You're going to want to ice it as much as you can the first few days and then a mouth wash whenever you eat, drink, or smoke anything other than ice or water. And again with this one the length of it can be kind of irritating. The first one just needs to stay in for about 3 weeks and then you can switch to one that's smaller and more snug to your lip itself. Again, the location is all personal preference. There are either side and typically what it is it's lined up with the crease of your nose to the corner of your lip. Right in that general area. Pretty much directly in the center.
