Hi, my name is Lisa Moskovitz and I'm a registered dietitian and certified in the state of New York, with a private practice on the upper east side. I specialize in weight management, exercise and sports nutrition. And I'll be talking to you about diets.
The Grapefruit Diet. This is a 1930s diet fad that claims there's a magical ingredient found in grapefruit that when eaten in combination with protein will turn on your fat-burning process. Similar to the Atkins approach, they have you eating low amounts of carbohydrates, high amounts of protein and don't really take into account the saturated fat content.
Each meal must consist of either half a grapefruit or eight ounces of grapefruit juice. Because it doesn't account for the saturated fat, I don't necessarily think this is a healthy or long term solution. It's what I like to call a "quick fix".
