Learn how to get over your ex in this high school dating advice video from Howcast with expert Shallon Lester.

Hey guys. My name is Shallon and I'm here to help you with all the questions you might have about love, lust, romance, and everything in between. For more, visit me on twitter @downtownshallon or be sure to check out my website Getting over your ex is probably the worst part about dating, but I've been through it so many times, I'm practically an expert. Here are my tips, number one, have a good playlist. I can't tell you how many different playlists I have on my iPod that are some variation of screw that guy, or heartbreak, or sad face. I have them for every single stage of the break-up. If you're still at the point where you're still angry and hurt, My Chemical Romance makes some really awesome songs off their first album. If your at the point where you are ready to move on and you realize your ex-boyfriend or girlfriend is a complete douchebag, Beyonce, always Beyonce. But if you're just plain depressed, Ray LaMontagne can be really, really soothing. Also, give yourself a mourning period. It's okay to set aside a long weekend and just cry and eat. I do it, and it helps get the feeling out so that you're not stewing and bottling it up for weeks and months and years and ions and endless time. Here's another helpful trick, make a list, an actual physical list of all the things you think your ex was; smart, dynamic, handsome, safe, wonderful. And then call your girlfriends and tell them to help you fill out the actual things he was. He was not dynamic, he was obnoxious. He didn't make you feel safe, he was controlling. He wasn't smart, he was pretentious. And then put this list up some place you can see it to remind yourself that he was more reality than fantasy. And a lot of times with exes, it's not the person you miss, it's the possibilities. It's all the things you were going to do together, places you were going to go, experiences you were going to have together from Homecoming, to Christmas, to Valentines Day to summer flings. Realize that you're probably mourning those activities more than you're mourning the actual guy. But here's the good news, you can still do all those things and more, just with someone better and hotter and taller. See, don't you feel better already?
