Learn how to handle being different in this high school dating advice video from Howcast with expert Shallon Lester.

Hey guys. My name is Shallon and I'm here to help you with all the questions you might have about love, lust, romance, and everything in between. For more, visit me on twitter @downtownshallon or be sure to check out my website If you feel like you're really different and you're and outsider and kind of a freak, I've got news for you-every single person on earth, my self included, God knows, has felt this way at one point or another. But if you are comfortable with you are, other people are going to be comfortable with you. If you're confident, other people will feel at ease with you, and then all those differences that you're so hyper aware of aren't going to matter. So how do you become comfortable with yourself? How do you get in touch with who that person is? Number 1: be honest about who you are. If you're the emo kid, that's fine, you don't have to be the prep, you can be the best emo kid you can be. The key is to finding people who are like you. Now they might not live next door, they might not go to your high school, but they're just a google search away. And I know that while you're in high school, it seems like your entire world and you're never going to experience anything else, but I promise you once it's over, the world opens up, and you can suddenly find people who have all the same interests as you-who knew. And here's another secret, those things that make you weird or uncool when you're a teenager, are the things that make you interesting and awesome when you're older. As you get older, people who are normal become invisible and boring. Think about your favorite celebrity, there's something about them that stood out, something that they were probably really uncomfortable with. Like a basketball player, do think they always loved being 6 foot 9? Probably not. Do you think Kim Kardashian loved having a big butt all the time? Probably not. But now it's a thing that makes them unique, and as you get older, unique equals awesome.
