Hi, I'm Joe D'Andrea, a Pokemon professor at Comic Cafe in Warren New Jersey, and we're here to show you how to play the Pokemon trading card game.
Well, Pokemon is short for ""pocket monsters"" in Japanese. And it's an entire franchise: there's the trading card game, there's movies, television show, video games. It actually started a video game. One of the things that made it really popular was the Gameboy link cable. Now, this was a cable that connected two Gameboys together, and it allowed the players to trade Pokemon over the cable and battle each other, which was a big deal when it came out, and it really propelled its popularity. Of course, a really popular aspect of Pokemon is the trading card game. The trading card game debuted in Japan in 1996 and then came stateside in 1999. The Pokemon trading card game is showing no signs of slowing down. There are, as of today, more than 600 different Pokemon.
