The Alley Drill is a drill that we use to help work on our footwork, in particular, our drop step and our body position in transition, or, for example, an attack man riding a defensive player. The set up of the drill is to have the lines in the alleys between the side line and the restraining box. Then we'll set up a series of cones along each side. The offensive player will carry the ball about 75% and the defensive player will use proper foot work as well as body position to drive to each side line. As they approach the side line the defensive player should be punching on their bottom hip to widen them out and then drop step to open up and maintain that cushion between the offensive player and the defensive player. As they approach the other side line, the defensive player will again push on their bottom, on their hip with their bottom hand in drop step. And this will repeat about seven or eight times as they go up the field. And that's what we refer to as the alley drill.
