So, let's say you, uh, just got your wireless adapter. I've got mine right here, it's a nice little tiny USB WiFi adapter. And as you can see it has a USB port right here. And it's basically that's all it is, it's a really small adapter. They come in many different sizes and shapes, but, uh, the installation process is pretty similar all around.
Whenever you buy a wireless adapter you will always get a CD with it that has the driver for the wireless adapter on it. Now a driver is basically a piece of software that tells the computer how to interface with this new unfamiliar hardware that it's never seen before.
So before you plug your wireless adapter in, you really want to install the software that comes with it first. Now when you put the CD in the computer, it'll take you through a little wizard. And in one of the stages in the wizard, it will ask you to insert the wireless adapter into the computer.
If you don't have the CD you can always download the drivers from the manufacturers' websites. For example if it's a Linksys wireless adapter, I always like going to support.Linksys.com, ah, and so on with every other company. They always have a support website that you can download everything from.
Just make sure you have the right model number, don't just download any driver, you want to make sure that you got the right model number, and the right operating system for your computer. And then you should be good to go.
