Transcript
Speaker 1: Swoop?
Speaker 2: Yeah.
Speaker 1: Let's take it back.
Speaker 2: Let's go back, way back.
Speaker 1: Back in time.
Speaker 2: Back in time.
Speaker 1: This is back when Dr. James, and A Smith invented the game on the peach basket.
Speaker 2: Oh, really?
Speaker 1: In Massach- ...
Speaker 2: We going that far back?
Speaker 1: ... Springfield, Massachusetts.
Speaker 2: OK. Let's go back then. This is one of the first plays ever invented.
Speaker 1: What's it called?
Speaker 2: It's called, the give-and-go.
Speaker 1: The give-and-go?
Speaker 2: Yeah, you give it ...
Speaker 1: Give it.
Speaker 2: ... and I'm gone.
Speaker 1: Where you going?
Speaker 2: I don't know.
Speaker 1: I want you to come back, man.
Speaker 2: OK.
Speaker 1: I like you, man.
Speaker 2: So ...
Speaker 1: Let's try it again.
Speaker 2: ... yeah. Yeah. I give it ...
Speaker 1: And where you going?
Speaker 2: ... and I'm gone.
Speaker 1: Why you keep leaving me, man? I like you over here, man. Let's try it again.
Speaker 2: OK. I give it ...
Speaker 1: And where you going?
Speaker 2: Right here.
Speaker 1: Oh, OK. [laughs]
Speaker 2: Now the give-and-go is a simple play ...
Speaker 1: Right.
Speaker 2: ... that you can get two players. Basically, it's all about tricking the defender. So when I pass the ball to you, I go to the basket.
Speaker 1: Go to the basket.
Speaker 2: But first I want to give a little fake, so we're gonna bring in an expert ...
Speaker 1: Where's the expert at?
Speaker 2: ... on the give-and-go.
Speaker 1: Really? Where is he at?
Speaker 2: It's King Arther.
Speaker 1: Oh.
Speaker 2: King Arther's a point guard.
Speaker 1: Uh-huh.
Speaker 2: So he's the player who can master the give-and-go, because you don't never know when the point guard on defense make fall asleep.
Speaker 1: OK. Right, right.
Speaker 2: So we'll go over to the court, and display how to work the give-and-go.
Speaker 1: 'Cuz you want to catch him sleeping.
Speaker 2: Yeah.
Speaker 1: Oh, dude bet not sleep.
Speaker 2: No.
Speaker 1: Don't sleep.
Speaker 2: No.
Speaker 1: Don't snooze.
Speaker 2: No.
Speaker 1: Let's go check it out.
Speaker 2: Let's go.
C: (?)
Speaker 1: All right, Swoop. Now we're on the court.
Speaker 2: Right.
Speaker 1: We're gonna display the give-and-go. Now, obviously King Arther's handling the ball because he's a point guard. He's at the top of the circle. Now the guy who's playing defense on him might go to sleep.
Speaker 2: Right.
Speaker 1: So he think King Arther's gonna pass the ball, and maybe just stand still.
Speaker 2: Right.
Speaker 1: But when he gives it to you ...
Speaker 2: Right.
Speaker 1: ... that's when he's got to go.
Speaker 2: OK.
Speaker 1: So maybe King Arther will give a fake like he's coming to the ball. And he shoot right down the lane, and you give it to him.
Speaker 2: OK.
Speaker 1: So that's when he's gone.
Speaker 2: All right. Let's get a shot.
Speaker 1: So here we go. Live speed, give-and-go. King Arther's handing the ball. He gives it to you, and he's gone. That's the give-and-go.
Speaker 2: Wow.
Speaker 1: That's how you do it, Swoop.
Speaker 2: Man. That's easy, man.
Speaker 1: It's a easy play. It's a simple play. But remember, not a lot of people have great fundamentals, so if you use that in a game you can probably get it off.
Speaker 2: Oh, nice.
Speaker 1: So you want to make sure you give a good pass first.
Speaker 2: Uh-huh.
Speaker 1: Hit your target on the wing. Give a nice little fake. Shoot to the basket. Put your hands out for a target. Get the ball, go right in, and finish. That's the give-and-go with the Wizards.
