Gucci added eye wear and silk scarves to their reputory of products including a flower pattern that they designed especially for Princess Grace of Monaco, the former Grace Kelly which was called Flora. They added a perfume in 1974. It was called Number One and specific Gucci design details have become very famous.
One of the design details is the use of bamboo handles on their handbags which actually grew out of material shortages during World War Two. Their head designer couldn't get as much leather as he wanted so he started using bamboo handles and that's become a very Gucci detail.
Then of course there's the red and green stripes that we see on shoes and handbags and other accessories and there's also the two interlocking Gs that make the Gucci logo. Those are of course the initials of the founder, Guccio Gucci. The 1970s were really like a high time for Gucci and they initiated a ready to wear line and a lot of the clothes had fur and leather trim. Obviously that was very appropriate for Gucci because that was really their business, but by the 1980s the brand had lost a little bit of its luster due in part to some scandals within the family, but just also changing fashions.
By the end of the 80s the time was right to renovate the brand. That's a little bit about the history of Gucci, some of their accessories and the company history leading up to the 1980s.
