Breastfeeding in public can prove to be tricky for a lot of moms, especially the shyer ones, but the good news is, that there's so many different wraps and blankets and accessories that you can buy to cover up, other than your own shirt. In most cases, a baby's head is big enough to just cover up the breast, and many people who walk by a mom on a park bench or even in a restaurant who are breastfeeding their babies, just think that they're just holding the baby in a cradle hold. With a newborn, it's a little bit different. It's a little more unwieldy.
We have to hold the baby properly, we have to give them all that support. But with a baby that's a little bit older, and by that I mean 6 weeks and up, it's very easy to just cover up with the baby's head right there. If you want to drape something over you, a lot of moms have special blankets that they buy. Some just say, I'm using my plain old blanket, tucking it into my bra strap, and in they go with that. And some just don't care at all, and whatever's hanging is hanging and that's nature's way of doing that, and that's the way they're doing it. But, breastfeeding in public, you are also very protected by law to be able to do this, so don't let anybody tell you you can't. You have every right to nurse publicly.
