Made famous by Alexander McQueen and adored by Lady Gaga, the ballet heel is probably the hardest heel to walk in. If you're up for the challenge, here are some tips on how to walk in a ballet heel.
Why they're called ballet heels is because the foot position in a ballet heel is exactly that of a ballet dancer in point. This means that you're walking on the tips of your toes much like a dancer dances in a ballet point.
The requirements to walk in this type of heel are very extreme. Many people do not have the flexibility in their ankles to achieve that foot position. It is also very painful and places a lot of stress to the front of the foot to be walking in a shoe like that.
Tips for walking in the ballet flats, you must go back to the posture. Strong posture is the foundation to walking in any difficult heel. Shoulders must be back. Your abdominals must be engaged. Because of the demands that are placed on the foot, I recommend doing foot strengthening and balance training exercises to strengthen the ankle and build a strong foundation.
When you walk in these heels you're forced to the front of the foot which means you must slow it down and be very precise with each step.
