Now I'm going to demonstrate how to do a crunch side bend combination. We're going to take the dumbbell in the left arm, okay? Place the right-armed hand on the head, lightly, so you don't pull on the neck. You're going to stretch to the left and exhale and crunch to the right. So stretch again to the left, exhale and crunch to the right, bringing that elbow down to the obliques. Keep that hand high on top of the head, but try not to pull on the neck.
So you're going to stretch to the left; crunch to the right. And then you're going to do, obviously, vice-versa, so you're going to opposite hand on the head, stretch to the right, crunch to the left. Exhale on the contraction. In this case it's to the left. And that's how you do a crunch side bend combination.
