Hi guys, this is Max Tapper again with Howcast. Today I'm going to show you guys how to do a platform push-up. Platform just means that either using something like a bench, or yoga blocks, could be anything, could be a step stool, no matter what it is, it's going to be a platform. It could be the side of a bed, it does not matter what it is. This one is going to look like, we're just going to use these yoga blocks, okay, but remember a platform is just as good. This is the positioning. Hands on top of platform, and we're down.
Now let me explain the difference. When we're looking for a platform push-up, a lot of times it's also called the incline push-up, and many times it's used to give yourself a little less of your full body weight, so a little bit of an easier push-up. Now if you use a flat bench or a step stool like this, your chest will touch the bar, or the end of the bench. You use something like a yoga block, you're able to go a lot deeper and kind of recruit a lot more muscles in your chest and your shoulders, so it depends on you what you're actually doing it for, but they are both platform push-ups. Remember as I said, you can use a bench, stool, or yoga blocks, these are yoga blocks. Now if it was a bench, my chest would stop the minute I touch this bar, let's say there was an imaginary bar here, I would stop here. That would signify the end of the bench. I'm using yoga blocks so I can do this. I can go a lot deeper, again recruit more shoulder muscles, more chest muscles, and lot more stabilizers.
The choice is ultimately up to you. Do whatever makes you feel happy, and do whatever makes you feel safe.
