Phelps: Yes, m'am?
Woman: I heard the terrible news over the radio.
Phelps: Then you can help us with our inquiries?
Woman: Yes, sir. They had a row last night. I heard Mrs. Muller screaming.
Phelps: Did you see Mrs. Muller come home late last night at all?
Woman: No. Not at all. I did see Mr. Muller put something in the incinerator earlier this morning, though.
Galloway: I told you he was our guy. Now let's get this bum downtown and into a cell.
Woman: Look! There he is now!
Phelps: Step away from the incinerator!
Galloway: Don't let him get away!
Phelps: Okay, but no shooting! We need this guy to make the case.
Enough running, Hugo! Hands where we can see them.
This doesn't look good, Hugo.
Hugo: I can explain the blood!
Phelps: Get him booked in at Central, Officer. Then put him in an interview room. We'll be speaking with him later. And inform the Captain.
Officer: Yes, sir, Detective.
Phelps: Is there someone you can call, miss?
Michelle: I don't...no one's home, and...
Phelps: You need somewhere to stay, Michelle. Do you have other family? Grandparents? Aunts or uncles?
Michelle: I could call Aunt Helen, but she lives in Bakersfield, and...
Phelps: Call her. We're going to get someone down here from Juvenile Hall to talk to you in the meantime.
Galloway: We ought to get some uniforms down here to clean up and take care of the kid.
Woman in taxi: Drive me up to Mulholland...
Galloway. Homicide division. Badge number five six four.
Officer on radio: Go ahead, Detective.
Galloway: Can we get Ray Pinker and a Technical Services team to a house at 130 North Bonnie Brae Street? Send someone down from Juvenile Hall to look after a young lady.
Officer on radio: Roger, 11-K. Inform Detective Phelps that the coroner has a report waiting at the police morgue downtown when he's available.
Galloway: Got it, KGPL.
Phelps: You're behind the wheel.
Galloway: Fine. Where are we headed?
Woman on street: Did you read about the woman who stabbed her husband and [unintelligible].
Phelps: I'm surprised, though. I didn't make the husband for it.
Galloway: Always make the husband, Phelps. Nine times out of ten it's the closest person to the vic who does the deed. God knows I've wanted to kill some wives in my day.
Phelps: Lex parsimoniae.
Phelps: The law of parsimony. Occam's razor. The simplest explanation is most likely the correct one.
Galloway: You know, you could have said that without getting all liturgical on me.
Phelps: I'll try to dumb things down from now on.
Galloway: Appreciated. Try this one on for size. Rusty's razor.
Phelps: How's that go?
Galloway: You blame the guy that's banging her.
Phelps: Ah, of course. The famous lex ignoramus.
Galloway: It closes cases, Cole. It puts a lot of people away, that one.
