How to Pick Hot Massage Stones

Learn how to pick therapy stones for hot stone massage therapy from celebrity massage therapist Meagan Holub in this Howcast massage video.

When choosing a basalt stone for hot stone massage, you want to take a couple of things into consideration. You'll notice that all of these stones have a nice similar shape; they're a perfect oval shape, there's no jagged edges, there's no fissures in them or holes. They're just beautiful and smooth. You'll also notice they fit perfectly into the palm of my hand.

That's always a really nice size to work with. These are the ones you'll place down the body and use in all of the larger areas of the body. Then, you'll want an even larger stone to set right there on the sacrum, and that would be about this size. You'll see it's a little bit larger. You'll want to select one that is perfectly round for putting over the third eye. This is about normally about as big as you want that to get. You just want it to fit really comfortably on the forehead.

When choosing the ones to go into the fingers, sometimes it's a little bit harder to find the small stones that are all of the same size and shape, but you do your very best to avoid the ones that don't have jagged edges or sharp edges. You notice all of these have typically a pretty round shape, they're nice and smooth, and they're small enough that will fit right into the fingers and toes. Those are some of things you want to take into consideration when choosing a hot stone.
