Every once in a while I get a question about whether you use gel, oil, lotion, or creme for hot stone massage. Most commonly about 99.9 percent of the time I say people use oil. And the really fun thing about using oil with the salt stones is that the very first time you use oil with them it changes them to a beautiful ebony color, and they stay that way for the rest of the time that you own them. I do use lotion occasionally and I know that this is unique, but I will mix up the lotion and the oil. And this is a habit that I derived out of finding that a lot of my clients, being very discriminating clients, they don't appreciate a whole lot of oil all over them. They feel like they're leaving the massage like an oil slick. So, I try to mix the two together and I find that it's really enjoyable to use a little bit of lotion in with your hot stone massage even though it's not common.
