So let me try to explain why it's so important to prevent clogged pores. This is the hair follicle or the pore, and this is the sebaceous gland, also known as the oil gland. What happens when the pore gets clogged, is it gets clogged with the cells that line it as well as with the oil. What happens is, it gets more and more clogged until it finally bursts and it's the bursting of the pore that causes the inflammation and what you see on your skin as a pimple. Now I think the best way to prevent clogged pores is using prescription medicines like Retin A, Atralin or Tazorac. Glycolic acid and Salicylic acid also do a good job unclogging the pores. Because I tend to use natural ingredients in my practice, I like to recommend palmarosa and mahonia, which are two natural ingredients that also help unclog the pores. And remember, once the pores are unclogged, you have to keep using the medicines to keep them from getting reclogged.
