So, what are common skincare do's and don'ts?
Number one, don't over wash your face, twice a day is plenty. And if you want to just wash it at night that's fine as well. And choose a cleanser that works with your skin type whether oily, combination, or dry.
The second don't is don't pick. There are so many patients that come to my office and they only have mild acne, but their face looks terrible from all the picking they've been doing. I know it's hard not to pick but resist the urge. You're just making things worse.
And the third don't would be don't over exfoliate. Patients come in and their poor faces are red and ragged from all the exfoliation they're doing. Our skin does a pretty good job exfoliating itself. But if you like the feeling of exfoliation and it does help clean out your pores once a week with something fine grained is plenty.
Now for some common do's. Do wear moisturizer with sunblock every day. I prefer the sunblock zinc oxide and titanium dioxide. They're inert so they won't cause allergy. They're minerals so there's no chemicals in them. And finally they actually work the best at blocking the sun.
The next do is be consistent. Don't switch products every three days, your face won't know what happened to it. Give something two weeks before if you decide if it's the right product for you or not. It does take some time to get used to a new product sometimes.
And the third do is try to use products with fewer chemicals. I just believe that this is the best approach to skin care, to try to use things that have as few chemicals as possible that can still give you healthy radiant skin.
